About

Jens Matthies, founder of JM Lampshades, was born in Hamburg, Germany and has been living and working in Ireland since 2018.
With a background in interior decoration and architecture, his work combines traditional craftsmanship with a refined understanding of interiors, proportion and light.

From his studio in Kenmare, Co. Kerry, Jens creates bespoke handmade lampshades for private residences, interior designers and boutique hospitality projects.
Each piece is individually handcrafted using carefully selected high-quality materials, including silk, linen, cotton and specialist paper.

Particular attention is given to texture, finish and the quality of light each lampshade brings to a space. Shades can be customised in a variety of premium fabrics, linings and finishes to complement both contemporary and traditional interiors.

A distinctive part of the collection is the lacquered lampshade — a traditional technique rarely seen in Ireland and inspired by craftsmanship from Jens’ hometown of Hamburg.
Created through a meticulous multi-stage process, these shades can be commissioned in a wide range of colours and produce a warm, atmospheric light.

All pieces are handmade to order.
